After weeks of hard work in classes, I had come to the conclusion that a short break was needed. I expressed this to a friend names Josh and he had this same idea. Josh (a.k.a.; event planner) started to do research and find out great places to see. Our whole objective is to not make this vacation a “touristy” trip but make this a trip that will allow our time to see different site but also time to relax and not feel rushing in our activities. I personally feel that this might be part of Josh’s life purpose because he planned out our drive there, subway riding once there, eating locations, great sites to see amongst other itinerary items. I honestly didn’t have any input in the planning this vacation but I knew that I wanted to get away. Josh and I also went on a cruise before and we meet someone who lived in Chicago and have discovering this, he thought it would be more beneficial if we went over there house to drop off our car and ride the subway to bypass the busy traffic and be shown some of the great sites to see in Chicago. This worked out perfect, because we were able to bypass the busy traffic in Chicago and tour the city while still not having to rush for anything.

A couple of my other friends joined us on the trip…. Jiamu and Matt, who goes to the same church as we do joined us and we had a blast. We took the train into Chicago and went to the famous, Chicago style pizza restaurant where we enjoyed some amazing deep dish pizza! We walked to Millennium Park where there was a vast array of arts sculptures, and figures displayed on the streets. We then went into the trumps towers and it was the expressed definition of luxury. Everything about the hotel was really nice!…or at least the parts that we saw. As we walked through the city of Chicago, we noticed the diversity of people and how many small universities where there.

(In the millenium park, we saw this huge egg shaped thing not for sure what it though..lol)

I woke up this morning to the smell of sausage, biscuits and eggs, ate breakfast, got dressed and headed to school. As I entered the campus I noticed that there were a lot of parking spaces and I immediately got excited because I thought that I arrived on campus early and I just knew my day was going to be good. I began to pass parking lots and noticed almost no one seemed to be on campus. It seemed weird because it was so empty, I didn’t know if the raptured had taken place and I missed it or there was just a lot of people who were skipping class. …lol. Suddenly I texted friends and thought to myself that maybe classes were cancelled. At this very moment I write to you in the student union in my hilarious embrassment to know that I am on campus and there is no classes. Oops, I did it again! lol,

—until next time

The homework is coming in like never before already. I am feeling optomistic about this year because this is my last year!…lol I look forward to meeting the new people on campus and enjoying the great weather while it last. As some may know already and new to others, there are many events planned this year through an organization that I am apart of called Alpha Omega Coed Chirstian Fraternity Inc. I will be posting info later about those events in the near future. I hope you all have a great acedemic school year because I plan on it.

So students have been moving into the residence hall and enjoying the first few days before classes begin. There are many activities for residences to enjoy such as volleyball tournaments at the crossings, movie night at the rec and convocation on friday. The excitement of the new school year is in the air and everyone is excited about it. As parents and friends helped the residences move in, we were blessed with amazing weather to make the move-in experience even better. RAs have entered into full throttle with decorations now set throughout the residence hall and activities planned throughout the year to create a great community throughout the residence hall. Take a look at all the many moments captured during just one day of move-in.

There is a young boy by the name of Adam and he tells us his story of cancer and how he has overcome this disease. After watching the video, I was challenged to look at my situation in life and know that I can overcome it. There are so many unfortunate circumstances that take place in people lifes but it’s our chose to decide how we will react to it, and not let it change who we are to be. I compel you to check out this video and tell me what you think.

The Story of Adam Bender

“to try your best and never give up” was something that Adam said in the video and this statement gives me even more motivation to never give up. When I find myself in situations where things aren’t going my way and/or I am really confused about why some things happen to me, I must never give up. When it’s finals week and I don’t feel like studying and tired…Don’t give up. When my financial aid is taking forever to be dispersed, and bills come in,…I must remember to stay focused and never give up. I have never had to go through what Adam had to endure but I find that the lesson learned remains the same in any situation. I find that it’s so easy to give up and give in to what’s happening to us, but I remember my father saying”to those who endure and hold strong will win the race.”

8 Top-Paying Part-Time Jobs for College Students

August 20, 2008 08:00 AM

Whether you’re looking for that work-study position that rounds out your financial

aid or a part-time job that’ll earn you some extra cash, here are eight of your best-paying

options, both on and off campus.

1) Computer Lab Assistant (on-campus)

Typical Hourly Pay: $8–$11

Good news for computer geeks: If you know your way around basic hardware and

applications, you’re comfortable with printer hookups and toner changes, and you’ve

got a knack for troubleshooting, you may be able to land a gig at your campus

computer lab helping your fellow students. The better your tech skills, the higher

your pay will usually be. And as long as everything’s running smoothly, you’ll generally

have a lot of downtime to get some studying done while you’re on the clock.

Computer Support Specialist (off-campus)

Average Hourly Pay: $21.78

If you’re really a computer whiz and can talk people through most hardware or

app problems, consider looking for an off-campus job as a computer support specialist,

answering customers’ questions about things like e-mail, installation, and printing.

Average pay for these positions last year was an impressive $21.78 an hour.

2) Administrative / Personal Assistant (on- or off-campus)

Average Hourly Pay: $19.57

The work may not sound glamorous, but administrative assistants have some

of the highest-paid hourly jobs out there. Execs and entrepreneurs frequently

pay good money for reliable, trustworthy part-time talent to help them with

their busy lives. As a personal assistant, you’ll need to be flexible, accommodating,

and ready for anything: You might be in an office, making travel arrangements,

helping with paperwork, or you might be out and about, running errands, dropping

off dry-cleaning, picking up lunch, and pet-sitting.

On campus, deans and department heads often need an executive or administrative

assistant to help with preparing reports, scheduling meetings, arranging conference

calls, and various clerical and reception duties. Look for admin job listings at your

school’s career center, in you campus paper classifieds, and on job sites like

Craigslist, CareerBuilder, and Monster.

3) Aerobic Instructor / Fitness Trainer (off-campus)

Average Hourly Pay: $15.86

If you’re a workout junkie who’s spending hours in the gym anyway, why not make

some good money while you’re at it? Put your workout ethic to use at your campus

rec center or at a local gym, and help other people get healthy and in shape.

4) College Mail / Print Center Attendant (on-campus)

Average Hourly Pay: $12–$13

On-campus centers that feature printing, copying, binding, and mailing services

are generally found at larger schools. Off-campus, you can find a similar job at

places like Kinko’s and AlphaGraphics. Last year, mail clerks earned an

average of $12.32 an hour, and so-called “office machine operators”

(employees running photocopiers, printers, etc.) made an average hourly wage

of $12.85. As an added perk, you may be able to get a discount on those costly

print jobs for your large end-of-semester projects.

5) Library Assistant (on- or off-campus)

Average Hourly Pay: $11.42

Sort and shelve books, periodicals, and other materials, and help visitors check

out books and operate audio/visual systems, computers, and copiers. This is

another job that could give you a good deal of free time to study. The catch is
your campus library will probably keep you busiest around midterms and finals

, when you’d need the study time most. If your campus library isn’t hiring,

try your local public libraries.

6) Bank Teller (off-campus)

Average Hourly Pay: $11.36

About one in four bank tellers work part-time, and although most teller jobs

don’t require a college degree, if you’re a finance or accounting major, getting

started as a teller now could help pave your way to a higher-level job in the

banking or finance industry after graduation. If your school happens to have

a campus branch of a national or local bank, you may even be able to score a

teller job right there on campus.

7) Desk Attendant (on-campus)

Typical Hourly Pay: $8–$10

With many colleges upping campus security in recent years, schools all over the

country are hiring student attendants to monitor those entering and exiting

dorms and other campus buildings. If you’re used to pulling all-nighters on a

regular basis, the nightshift could be perfect for you: With low foot-traffic in

the middle of the night, you’ll have a lot of time to study while earning a paycheck.

Hotel Desk Clerk (off-campus)

Average Hourly Pay: $9.66

 Babysitter (on- and off-campus)

Average Hourly Pay: $9.21 for five to nine years’ experience; $7.17 for

one to four years’ experience (according to PayScale.com)

Though this job may not pay as well as other on- or off-campus jobs, you’ll

usually have plenty of work, especially if you’re dependable and can build a

strong customer base off word-of-mouth referrals. Start with your campus

newspaper — nearby parents and professors with kids will often advertise

here, and the pay can run higher, between $10 and $15 an hour. You can

also try Craigslist and community bulletin boards to find off-campus families

looking for babysitting services. Get night sitting gigs, and you’ll have plenty

of time to study and do homework after the kids go to sleep — assuming, of

course, you’re good enough at your job that once you put the kids to bed,

you can get them to stay there.

So some friends and I went out to have night of fun and relaxation, so we hung out over a friends house and went to the see the fireworks. Some times you just have to get away and hang out just to get away from the books. Its was cool to experience life outside of studying.

This picture actually looks a little weird. I look a little insane, but I didn’t care while in the moment. I think all the noise brings out the wild side men. There were many people there to watch the fireworks.

I had fun hanging with these people. Diversity at its finest. Germany, China, America, oh yeah you can’t forget about the Jamaican brutha in the middle.

I figured I throw this picture in. Nino on the right being crazy. lol. I had to put this up, sorry Nino.

What else is there to do during these summer months. I know there is a lot to do, so I would like to know what you are doing over summer break!

Have a Great Summer!
