In the words of Walt Disney, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” And after much time, planning, fruitful cooperation and most of all courage, my dream has finally come true. I was given the opportunity this past spring semester by the SG Legacy Grant to begin something I have been working towards called the Student Activities Endowment Fund.

The Endowment is just as it is, its mission is to raise enough funds to eventually endow student activities at the University of Toledo by subsiding and then offsetting the cost of student activities fee that students pay. For those who do not know exactly what endowments are and how they work they are simply like a savings account, but much larger and used for philanthropic purposes. The interest is scraped off the top and used for whatever purpose the Endowment is set up for.

With this in mind, the Student Activities Endowment’s purpose is to create a secure financial foundation that will uphold student activities for the future. This would literally ensure that there will always be activities for students in every way that they exists now and continue to exist. Even with new activities, programs and events that are set up, there will be an assurance for the students that these activities will always here. The vision of the Student Activities Endowment Fund or SAEF is to build an atmosphere where the student experience can thrive in all aspects, ultimately culminating to the idea of making UT a SAEF Place.

It is my hope that the Endowment and its vision will be something that students as well as members of the UT community will embrace with open arms because it really is all about the students. It is also about ensuring that the students of the University of Toledo will always know that at the end of the day, they have created something truly unique in their experiences in student life and in involvement. It’s those experiences that will always be with them and that they will treasure for the rest of their college careers and beyond. That is my hope all UT Students and for this Endowment…
