Keeping Up with Dr. Kaye

Dream big! Black History Month kicks off with special event

Black History Month is almost here, and we’re kicking off the yearly celebration with a FREE event on Saturday, February 8, that combines a luncheon with an inspiring speaker who will talk about social acceptance and how to achieve your dreams.

Yanick Rice Lamb is a media expert who’s worked in TV, magazines, newspapers and online. She knows the importance of going after your dreams, but she also knows that social acceptance is an important part of achieving those dreams. How do you fit into your social circles: your friends, your school, your workplace? You can improve your chances for moving ahead by improving your social acceptance.

So you’ll want to be there when Yanick talks about how you can be socially accepted in some parts of your life, but not in others — and how you can leverage your strengths to win social acceptance.

Her talk will be part of an exciting program that will include musical performances and a FREE soul food luncheon. It’s definitely worth investing your time on Saturday, February 8 from noon until 2 p.m. in the Student Union Auditorium.

The event is FREE for UT students, faculty and staff, but you’ll need to reserve your place by calling 419.530.2261 or emailing oemss@utoledo.edu.

I hope to see you on February 8 as we kick off Black History Month with this very special event.
