Keeping Up with Dr. Kaye

Stay safe, stay secure, stay connected!

Student safety is a top priority at The University of Toledo.  You can be an active participant in your own safety, and UT has three events this Wednesday, Feb. 26 to help you!

The Rec Center and the Counseling Center are sponsoring a Safety Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rec Center aquatics area.  There will be free food and prizes, plus a chance to learn about healthy habits that can make your campus experience safe and secure.

There’s also a special safety event for commuter students from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Student Union Trimble Lounge.  Stop by and enjoy the food while learning about staying safe!

A UT Safety Chat is happening in Student Union Room 2592 from 7 to 9 p.m. UT Police Chief Jeff Newton will be on hand to explain the safety resources available on campus for you — like UT ALERT, and the LifeLine Response EDU app for your smartphone.  There will be free pizza and prizes, too!

You’ll be able to ask Chief Newton questions, then you can boost your safety skills by participating in a training session to help prepare participants for an active shooter situation (ALICE). Or you can take healthy boundaries training led by Lt. Tressa Johnson, a certified counselor who’ll deliver real-life advice on how to use good communication to improve your romantic relationships. Both training sessions are free, and one participant from each session will receive a prize for completing the program.

Remember — Safety is our top priority.  This is information you can use right now and for the long term. So consider taking an active role in safety.  Hope to see you there!
