Why not consider using halogen heaters in place of less efficient heating options this winter. If everyone simply heated the areas of the house they actually used with direct heat provided by radiant heaters, there would be so much to be gained in the form of reducing our footprint.

Tom, the explanation of this category can be found here:
http://www.greenreportcard.org/report-card-2010/categories/shareholder-engagement , but certainly this should prompt a discussion on campus about investment strategies. Correct me if I am wrong, but unlike the days when university students, faculty and staff were at the forefront of calling for divestment from Apartheid South Africa, I have not heard many voice concern or interest around clean and just investment policies recently...Or, am I missing out on on this conversation?

This is a great article Ashley and I hope you keep them coming. What I find baffling is that the university had bought a number of new blue recyclabe bins and sent out numerous notices on how to use them properly and then in the recent layoff he eliminated the entire recycling department. How is that working out?

I like the windmills idea, but also agree that first we need to reduce the carbon footprint and that can be fairly easy, now that people are focusing on it.
