Put a Little Love in Your Heart

Put a Little Love in Your Heart was the theme of our flash mob. But, before you hit that play button on the video, I want to tell you a story. The video was created to help bring awareness to something very serious. One in 3 women die from heart disease. It has been designated as the No. 1 killer among women. The American Heart Association (AHA) faced a challenge, as women were not paying attention. Many even dismissed it as an older man’s disease, when in fact; heart disease kills more women than men. To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease, in 2003 the AHA created Go Red for Women, a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health. Unlike a self breast exam, you cannot physically feel your heart, but through education you can take steps to prevent the disease that kills more women than all cancers combined. This past Friday, February 1st, marked the 10th anniversary of Go Red. So a few of us got together, sported our red, got a little creative and the rest is history. The Go Red Event is a perfect segue way into a much bigger event. Saturday, May 11, 2013, you will have a chance to participate in the AHA national heart walk. If you or you know of someone whose been affected by heart disease consider walking. More on this event to come. End of story. No wait, I must thank all those who made the flash mob happen, aside from our own talented UTMC employees, there was Joe Galli, WNWO; Joy, Toledo Pharmacy; Laurie, Hospice of Northwest Ohio; Deb, Ability Center of Greater Toledo; Steve, Americare; and Jimmy Johns, who brought us lunch. However, a special shout out goes to Dan our photographer and Chris our videographer who kept up with us while walking backwards. Life’s adventures are learning lessons and I learned two things from this. 1)Remain positive, if you build it…they will come and the most important of all 2)I’m definitely keeping my day job. Enjoy the video!

Andrea, I think you did a fantastic job organizing this and I thank you for including me. In addition to helping spread the word about women and heart disease, it was a lot of fun!
