How Fit Are You?
Remember back in school when the Presidential Physical Fitness Test rolled around? There was no avoiding the gauntlet of push-ups, sit-ups, agility jumps, and more.
Though your PE instructor may now be a distant memory, it’s still smart to measure your strength, flexibility, and endurance, just as you measure your blood pressure and weight. These tests can give you a sense of your overall fitness level and even predict how you’ll age.
To see how you rate, visit The Wellness Center located in the Student Recreation Center (SRC) during their Walk-In Fitness Clinics and take the Health-Related Fitness Assessments, which somewhat resemble the presidential test. The tests available assess your cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility, and much more (see below for full list of assessments). The FREE clinics are held during the afternoon and night Monday through Thursday (see current schedule below). Just stop by in the Wellness Center for any questions.
The Health-Related Fitness Assessments offered:
Cardiovascular endurance (3-minute step test)
Muscular strength & endurance (60 second curl-up test)
Flexibility (Sit and reach)
Body Composition(Skin fold measurements & Body Composition Analyzer)
Blood pressure (not a measure of fitness)
Resting Heart Rate (manual reading)
Wii Fit (BMI, Center of Balance, Body Control, & Fit Age)
Clothing: Wear exercise clothes & shoes
Time: Approximately 15 minutes
Location: Wellness Center, located on the lower level by the climbing wall.
Sign-Up: Not required, just stop by during one of the scheduled clinics. Funded in part by the student general fee.
Fitness assessment is a great tool to see how you are doing. Track your scores to keep track of your progress. If you don’t score as well as you like, just remember to focus on improving your own scores periodically. As long as you are improving, your fitness plan is working. If you find you aren’t making the progress that you feel you should be seeing, it may be time to change your workout routine. The Wellness Center also offers Personal Training for Individuals and Groups for all UT Student and SRC Members!
Designed to assist SRC members 14 years of age and older with their health & fitness goals. Personalized fitness program designed for you. Fitness Staff Team will work with you one on one to achieve your fitness goals.
