Remember when I said it is happening right in your crib! Well it still is. Crib Notes will present a UT Iron Chef student completion in the Ottawa East dining hall. On March 20 at 4pm, the UT culinary artists will shine. Faculty and staff, students and UT dining service chefs get to share their passion for food. Local chefs from LaScola, B Gump’s, The Beirut and Revolution Grill, will be there to judge as well as our student government president, Paul Bongratz, our own Toledo Mayor Mike Bell, UT administrators Michele Martinez and Shanda Gore, The River radio Host Mary Beth Zolik, Blade foodmeister Dan Neman, food bloggers Josh Wagy and Amy Campbell and a master chef from the Maumee Fire Station, Jim Dusseau.( and we know firemen can cook) There will be entertainment, SWAG give aways, food samples, WXUT, an amazing cast of judges, distinct audience members, and lots of food and fun. Students selected from the living learning communities are in charge of the cooking and recipe creations for the secret ingredient. The ingredient is secret and well, is a big secret. They can cook anything but dessert. Will it be spinach, chicken, cabbage, lima beans, or bananas? Be sure to join in the excitement to find out.
There will be prizes for first place, a trophy for the winning team, and you can vote for the “Peoples’ Champion”. The prize winning dish will be featured during UT’s regular food services by Dining and Hospitality Services.
This great event is based on Iron Chef America, an American adaptation of the original Japanese TV program. The program is a culinary game show produced by the Food Network. In each episode, a new challenger chef competes against their choice of a current Iron Chef in a one-hour cooking competition. This will be an annual event and we will be taping for a YouTube video; so come eat, vote and join the fun!
